Preparing for your sleep study
We look forward to welcoming you to the BUPA hospital Southampton for your sleep study. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your study appointment time to fill an admission form.
Important information
• Please bring a comfortable top (preferably front fastening) and pyjamas over which, the equipment can be fitted.
• You may also wish to bring your slippers and dressing gown.
• Please bring your toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste etc).
• You may prefer to bring your own pillows from home. Some children may prefer to sleep under a familiar duvet.
• Please bring your medication, we do
not provide medication.
• Please bring your favourite books or toys (for children), videotapes, music or DVD to enjoy time prior to sleep.
General instructions:
• Wash your hair the day of the study. Do not use hair spray or gels.
• Female patients - please do not wear nail polish the day of your study. The oxygen and pulse monitor, (fits on the finger) cannot read through it.
• Try to avoid taking a nap on the day of your sleep study. Continue taking prescribed medication unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
• Avoid alcohol and caffeine on the day of your study. This includes coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa and cola drinks. Decaffeinated beverages are recommended.
• You will be woken at 0700am the morning after your study and can shower and wash your hair to remove the gels used overnight.
• Although you may not sleep quite so soundly in hospital you should be fine to drive home if you so wish. Children should be able to attend school normally.
Payment information
Your credit card details will be taken on admission. Our Central office will then send you an invoice to enable you to check the charges, or change your payment method and/or inform your insurer. Please be aware that some insurance companies do NOT cover the cost of a sleep study and prior to your study YOU SHOULD CHECK with them to make sure if you are insured.
If you are unable to come for your scheduled sleep study, you MUST CALL to cancel not later than 2:00 PM the day of your study. Please phone on 023 80914452.
